What is Dry Needling?
Dry Needling is a specialized technique used to treat painful areas in tissues that may be too deep to reach with a hands-on approach. Once the trigger point is reached with the needle, both a physical and a chemical response occur as proven in research.
Research has shown that prior to the needle being inserted into the tissue, the affected area is acidic with a low pH and poor oxygen levels compared to tissue regions without pain. Once the painful area is needled, chemicals are released and the affected region returns to a normal healthy environment allowing the muscles the freedom of movement. Oftentimes, an improvement in function can be immediate with increases in joint mobility, muscle function and less pain post treatment.
Benefits of Dry Needling
Decreases muscle tension
Increases blood flow to the surrounding tissues
Reduces pain
Increases joint range of motion
Accelerates recovery from an injury
Provides longer lasting results
